Our story and the route to renewables

The Havfram team combines decades of experience within offshore wind and leverages on essential experience on how to operate in harsh offshore environments. This uniquely positions us to offer the highest standards and services to customers worldwide.

Havfram started to build its business in 2020 when subsea installation company Ocean Installer ventured into the offshore wind industry.

2020: A reputable expert team from the offshore wind industry was recruited and merged with the existing team with decades of experience from complex oil & gas subsea installation. Especially the many years of experience from hash offshore-environments uniquely position Havfram to offer the highest standards and services to customers worldwide. 

Due to market expansion and to ensure growth and further developments of both business divisions, the subsea and offshore wind business areas were split into two separate companies in 2022. The subsea installation company rebranded as Ocean Installer while the pureplay offshore wind company continues to sail under the name Havfram.

2011

Company established

Legacy company Ocean Installer was established by seasoned professionals who identified a need for a challenger in the offshore oil & gas installation industry, capable of focusing on the harsh environments in the North Sea.

2012

First contract award

In record time, the company won its first contract with an oil and gas major and quickly became established as a 3rd North Sea installation company in the years following.

2015

Downturn in the oil & gas industry

Company adopted an asset-light business model which ensured that the company was well positioned to meet the challenging market environments in the oil & gas industry.

2019

Redefined strategy

Company is uniquely positioned platform within marine installation and defined as a preferred supplier of services to the international offshore wind industry.

2020

Launched new strategy and ventured into offshore wind with a rebranding from Ocean Installer to Havfram

Company launched three different business areas 1) Offshore Wind Development 2) Offshore Wind Installation and 3) Subsea Installation. Executive Vice President for Offshore Wind Installation was employed and brought onboard an experienced team with solid track record from installation of offshore wind turbines. By year-end, the company was renamed Havfram.

2021

Continued build-up of offshore wind organisation

Strong backing from subsea installation results and Havfram continued to build the offshore wind organization with hire of Executive Vice President for Kontiki Winds. (Early phase offshore wind development). Industrial partnerships established with major wind companies including RWE, Saipem and DEME.

2022

Renewed strategy and separation of subsea installation and offshore wind businesses into two separate companies

New Management team hired. Offshore Wind carved out from Subsea installation and pure play offshore wind company is established under the name Havfram. Subsea installation business continues as an entity and thereafter rebranded back to Ocean Installer. USD 500 million of equity commitment secured from Sandbrook Capital to strengthen the offshore wind organization. Havfram, now the holding company for Havfram Wind and Kontiki Winds, confirms first newbuilding order for a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) from CIMC Raffles in China.

2023

Winning of contracts, doubling of Wind Turbine Installation Vessel fleet and sharpening of business strategy

Havfram Wind announces the signing of several Preferred Supplier agreements and won contracts for the transport and installation of offshore wind turbines.

Havfram confirms second newbuilding order for a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) from CIMC Raffles in China.

After a comprehensive assessment of its overall business strategy, Havfram decides to discontinue the business area of early-phase development of offshore wind parks. (Kontiki Winds).
